"Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens - Remake/Parody in GTA V" by Powerlight-13

We’ve seen the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens remade several times, in many different ways. It’s been pretty overwhelming, and people might be getting sick of it by now. But you can relive the excitement again in a very different way with this recreation of the teaser in Grand Theft Auto V. The video was created by YouTube user Powerlight-13, and as you’ll see, it uses everything that GTA has to offer to make it happen. It may not live up to the badassery of the real Star Wars trailer, but it’s still fun to watch!

Here’s a wonderful one and half hour conversation between legendary animation director Hayao Miyazaki and Roland Kelts at a UC Berkley event. Like many of you, I’m a huge fan of the films that Miyazaki has made over the years, and it's really interesting to listen to him talk about his career and the work that he’s done.

The Berkeley Japan Prize is a lifetime achievement award from the Center for Japanese Studies to an individual who has made significant contributions in furthering the understanding of Japan on the global stage. This event was a part of the UC Berkeley Center for Japanese Studies' 50th Anniversary program of events (http://ieas.berkeley.edu/cjs/). The A Song of Ice and Fire books are long, laboriously detailed, and absolutely addictive. If George R. R. Martin dies before the series is finished, it will be the greatest tragedy of modern fantasy storytelling. It is known. In fact, it’s so widely known that putting pressure on Martin to stop doing any activities other than ones that lead to the completion of the books has become a loud, necessary cri de coeur for fans. Not only is it accepted, it’s a fan’s duty — when he or she sees Martin at a Game of Thrones red carpet or at a signing event — to tell him to get the fuck back to work.

Fortunately, a filmmaking team headed by Andy Young (of Keith and Heath fame) has taken inspiration from Multiplicity to toy with the cultural frustration in a fun, inventive way.

The new crossguard lightsaber in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer ignited controversy across the fandom. Many regarded it with scorn. Stephen Colbert was quick to come to the weapon's defense, but a lot of people still doubt its practicality. What we really needed was a demonstration, and now we've got one, courtesy of YouTuber Thrand collaborated with his friends Eldgrimr and Marquez.

The trio attempt to determine whether or not a crossguard lightsaber would be more hazardous to the one who wields it than the wielder's opponent by dipping the cross guard (aka "quillons") in thick, white paint. The results are fairly impressive.
