Short Film: Bag Man

"Bag Man" directed by Jonathan & Josh Baker

"Bag Man" is a short science fiction film with a long build up and a big pay off.  It follows a young boy as he carries a mysterious bag out of a city and into the country.  What's in the bag is a sci-fi MacGuffin that you'll have to sit patiently through about seven minutes of walking to see.

If the acting wasn't solid or the film's special effects fell short, this would be exactly the sort of student film that would make a student film festivals feel like a long afternoon in hell's waiting room.  Luckily, the Bakers deftly tell a story that, despite its simplicity, still manages to keep its audience riveted to the screen.
"BAG MAN is the understated story of a 12 year old African American boy, who takes us on an introspective journey out of the city and into the remote countryside of upstate New York. With a mysterious duffle bag in hand, its contents unknown to us, we journey from the urban hustle of Harlem, into the winter-ravaged woodlands a world away. On the road, we slowly discover his real intentions, and the startling significance of what is hidden inside a young boy’s bag."
