The popularity of HBO's Game of Thrones television series has lead a lot of fans who wouldn't otherwise be fantasy fan to attempt to wade into George R.R. Martin's massive tomes. This frequently results in frustration and disappointment as people who are used to being spoon-fed the series' complex storylines discover that Martin's book are written for hardcore readers.
